(huh? she almost blinks for a second there, having had gone on break for her part in the steel wing since she's been running packages and looking at locations for scrap metal to use for the lockers ace wanted to build.)
Rabbits running and trees and horses?
(...........don't ask how she can read emojis a bit.)
(she's had to adjust to different terms being used, but.)
Sorry if I'm misreading these any, but hello to you too. If it's any easier, I can also call you or come by while I'm on break to help you get used to this.
(the voice is unfamiliar, she took a second to think about if she heard this person before. no, she hadn't heard her, not yet. who is she talking about? did she not mean to text her?
answer is leaning more towards a yes.)
Liem? No, this is Texas, it's fine. I thought for a minute that you could have needed something, since I don't usually get texts out of the blue without needing a favor.
( oh geez oh wow how weird is it that cellinia is the only one whose karteria profile has so much extra information... uwu what's this owo...? a certain cute wolf girl's birthday? june 1st? cellinia founded pride month? that's crazy
anyway, we all know what elysia is here for - which wasn't birthday celebrations, but hey, she loves the element of surprise! )
Cellinia!! Happy Birthday!!! ππβ¨π°π₯³ππππ₯³π₯β¨π§π° You didn't tell me your birthday was coming up... I'm really upset! ( she's not. ) Do you have any special plans for today? Anything you want to do? To make up for my lack of gifts, you can ask anything you want of me!
(it takes a minute for her to open her syntrofos, she isn't sure why they gave her all this extra information using her data. including her birthday? well. she hadn't added it herself, but it isn't like cellinia could argue about elysia deciding to text her.
seems like she was running packages again as she's been doing.)
You don't have to. I don't usually celebrate it back home that often....or I guess I would say that, but it was friends dragging me out. And don't worry about doing whatever I want. I'm not asking for that or wanting that.
Right, I have time. I just got done sorting out where I'm moving to once the other person is ready, and dropped off another set of packages that got lost.
I have, yes. I was going around East Sophia in my spare time to track down anything useful we can use for scrap metal, while also checking out if there were any other spaces that could be used for it. I figured that it couldn't hurt to because of the job Chuuya paid me to do.
Some of them were happy to trade when I mentioned that we didn't mind offering what services we could for it, as well as me offering to run things from shops to other districts in exchange.
[ Chuuya's got people doing jobs? Interesting... ]
I'm glad to hear people are trusting us enough to trade and to be interested in services. That's what we want, and I think we should continue collaborating and cooperating with the people here as much as possible.
[ Which Texas is already doing, so Mel won't beat the dead horse. ]
I think we should do more of it, actually. I know the goal is for us to help the people here but Patho-Gen hasn't given us much to go by. I'm also wondering if we should be splitting up, keeping an eye on the districts - both to look for changes or sudden difficulties with the people, like disappearances, but also to get ourselves noticed. Get people to trust us more.
(she'll likely tell her more later, just not over the network.)
I can agree with that. If we're going to be here for the foreseeable future, then it's best to do whatever we can.
(not only by keeping their guard up around patho-gen, but also by working with the citizens. this kind of work is the work she would often do in her youth. she's every bit a natural still at it, mediating or coming up with deals and exchanges, while back then using her family's own good name as a means of achieving it.)
It would also help us build rapport, thinking about it. With eyes and ears around the city: that leaves us with the option of allowing us to catch things such as rumors or like you said about sudden shifts in the districts. Exactly like with the disappearances, since a small part of me doubts those men would stop at East Sophian's were they to show again.
The directives from the Velvet Claw are only the start of what we can do. Our work with the Steel Wing is another, and then us and like-minded people gathering around wherever and whenever possible to help should also be another tick in our favor. Not everyone is happy we're here, not everyone will change their minds, but nobody said change starts easy.
[ She's right on target. This makes explaining so much easier. ]
Precisely my concern. And I do not know that they'll stop with Karterians, either.
[ Though the risk to the Augmented is low because of their abilities, their connections, and their Souls...one can never be too careful. ]
It will be an uphill battle, but one we have to take. We can start with presence and rapport, building understanding. Helping out where we can, especially if we can do it for free. People don't have money; it's better to accrue reputational debt or even be able to trade than to put the citizens at a disadvantage with us. The more that we show our care - at least among us who DO care - the more we can prove our worth and our meaning to them.
And ensure that it isn't taken from them, like so many other things have been.
Which leaves the possibility that those of us who led peaceful lives are at risk.
(low or not, she wouldn't put it past them to snatch those who can hardly defend themselves off the streets. it's a worry for another time.)
Like what I'm doing with offering labor and any other exchanges they'd like to request from us. Trades are always useful if they're open to it, especially if both sides reach an acceptable agreement. I've done this before in the past with brokering deals and mediating between groups that had their differences while offering what I saw as good enough to keep the peace for what civilians would have been at risk. I wouldn't call myself amazing at it.(no, that's untrue. her grandfather wouldn't have decided on her to take over the family if she wasn't worth the effort he was giving her.)But I know that I rather ensure that not all of them feel like we're here to take things and give nothing in return.
And if that means I take on extra work on the side while helping with our mutual goals, then that's fine for me. My bosses slogan for us wasn't deliveries guaranteed for nothing as it's main one.
[ Which she can't precisely call out to a larger extent, when she's a woman with about six to eight plans running at any given moment. But it sounds more like Texas is already putting in the work and knowing the pockets that may need the most attention so far. She's already considering trade instead of monetary compensation. ]
I don't want anyone doing too much unless we have a larger swath of reliable, conscientious people working on this. People running out of steam - or becoming inured to suffering - is the last thing we want.
[ Morally grey people can still help, of course, if there is mutual benefit. But she draws the line at people who are going to use this vulnerability for their own gain or worse. The amount of good that may come out of this, such as the people trusting them even over a potential subversion from the government or Patho-Gen, is enough of a subtle manipulation in and of itself.
She wants this more angled to be as mutual as possible. ]
(she's been a busy wolf, admittedly. working keeps her mind focused on anything other than some of her issues about the environment, or about how much she misses her friends. it can't be helped, being the sole terran in this environment hasn't done any good for her.)
If you need a break too, should we get tea then later? Since it's a big undertaking, we both probably are due a respite for a bit. My nonno, grandfather sorry, would often do similar by taking me outside whenever I was with him to spend time in the city together when I was younger.
(a walk, some refreshment, and a chance to unwind for a bit would help with them. she'll likely see if she can drag ace out to join for whatever they choose to do if it's not just going out for tea. of them, texas is more flexible. she doesn't always come up with plans. a golden rule of penguin logistics was to go with the vibes, leave one's common sense at the door and roll with it. though that's an interesting policy, that's how it's always been.
it worked for them, especially with the way that the emperor ran the company and gave the girls encouragement in their autonomy.)
Back home, Boss would remind us to go with the vibes. The atmosphere, that it's okay to not think and go while rolling with what gets thrown at you. Not everything has to be complicated.
(if there's people they need to deal with themselves, then that can come later. patho-gen and the government might even use those who would take advantage of the chaos for their own personal gain as an example of why not to trust them, but she won't think too much about it. not for now, though she'll leave out the part where penguin logistics was not liked by the people of lungmen for their chaotic antics, that's not what this is about.)
